At SCOTS PGC College, we are committed to continually enhancing the boarding experience for our students and families. Following an extensive consultation process with boarding students, families, staff, past students and the broader College community, we have announced a staged transition to a consolidated co-educational boarding model on our Oxenham Street campus, commencing in 2027.
The decision follows three weeks of valuable feedback and discussion, which helped shape the future direction of boarding at our College.
Principal Mrs Emma Grave said the consultation highlighted several priorities shared across the boarding community.
The transition will occur in stages throughout 2027 to ensure students and families are well supported throughout the process.
At the beginning of the year, senior girls in Years 10, 11 and 12 will relocate to a dedicated wing within Hawkins House on the Oxenham Street campus. Junior girls in Years 6 to 9 will move to Cunningham House during 2027 as planned upgrades and preparations are completed.
This staged approach will allow us to carefully prepare each boarding environment while ensuring a smooth transition for students, families and staff.
We are working closely with builders, planners and construction specialists to ensure both Hawkins House and Cunningham House provide safe, modern and fit-for-purpose accommodation. Preliminary works will begin during the school holidays, with additional works continuing throughout 2027.
By bringing all boarding students together on the Oxenham Street campus, we will create greater equity in access to learning spaces, dining facilities, health and wellbeing services, co-curricular opportunities and College resources.
The new model will also strengthen collaboration between boarding and day-school staff, creating greater consistency in academic support, pastoral care and student wellbeing.
We recognise that this transition is particularly significant for generations of women who have called the Locke Street campus home during their time at SCOTS PGC.
“Girls’ boarding has been part of Locke Street for 108 years, and we understand the deep connection many past and present students have with the campus,” Mrs Grave said.
“We will honour that history thoughtfully. The stories, traditions and enduring spirit of girls’ boarding will remain an important part of who we are and will be carried forward into Hawkins House and Cunningham House.”
Planning for the transition will continue throughout Term 4 and into 2027, with students and families invited to contribute ideas and help shape the new boarding environments.
“This decision reflects our commitment to listening carefully, continually improving and ensuring boarding at SCOTS PGC remains strong, sustainable and responsive well into the future,” Mrs Grave said.
As we move into this exciting new chapter, our focus remains on providing a boarding experience where every student feels supported, connected and able to thrive.
