Prep
It’s a milestone day when your child starts school for the first time, for you and for them. That’s why choosing the right school for their Prep year is a big decision for your family. All of our Prep students are given the opportunity to learn and explore the fundamentals of literacy and numeracy, using elements of inquiry whilst learning under the watchful guidance of our caring teachers.
Our Prep area is a safe, architecturally designed precinct that combines purpose-built outdoor play facilities with specific learning zones. All Prep students have access to the wider College community where they can develop an appreciation of the school’s culture and values, as well as be exposed to general school life. One of the most important elements of a SCOTS PGC Prep journey is learning whilst having fun!
With a class size of no more than 25, our specialist early childhood teachers focus on each child’s learning needs and developmental stage. Based on the national Australian framework, our early childhood curriculum guides our Little SCOTS PGC to achieve academic and personal excellence in all that they apply themselves to. We believe it is important to focus on the intellectual, spiritual, social and emotional aspects of a child’s development as the foundations to building resilience and interpersonal skills. In addition, we encourage all of our students to be confident, independent and articulate individuals.
Every school day gives the students a well-rounded approach to different elements of educational curriculum from reading and writing and spelling, to counting and basic mathematics. Students use puzzles and games and learn art and craft to apply themselves in new and fun-filled endeavours. They are also introduced to Music, Science, History, Geography and Physical Education. Students learn at their own pace, whilst being exposed to challenges that allow them to grow and expand.
Prep offers a dynamic and encouraging environment ensuring students gain thinking skills and learn how to use technology. Interactive whiteboards are present in our main Prep room and students are introduced to iPads. A generous mini-library exists in the Prep room along with up-to-date supplies and games. The outcome for SCOTS PGC Prep students is that they are prepared for the transition to Year 1 and are well placed to be able to cope with the rigours of school
Each day our prep students dine in their own dining room and kitchen area where nutritious meals are prepared daily. Part of our philosophy at SCOTS PGC is to encourage healthy eating and the opportunity to spend time together socially. The kitchen is also used as part of class activities to learn more about food and cooking.
