International Schoolboy Rugby 7s Tournament

Date: May 19, 2015     Posted by: Carmel Cowley

Rugby 7's - PNG15The Scots PGC Open Schoolboys 7s side recently received an invitation to participate in the International Schoolboy 7s tournament. The tournament, hosted by the Scots College Sydney, showcases the best schoolboy rugby and rugby league talent from across not only Australia, but also the world. Despite being a late addition to the tournament, and with only a week’s worth of training under their belt, the Scots PGC team performed above expectations, winning the Shield with a 26 – ) victory over the Papua New Guinean Schoolboy’s side. The Scots PGC side went very close to winning their other matches against the Lloyd McDermott foundation (an elite all-Indigenous sporting team drawn from around the country – score: 21-10), Canberra Grammar School (Scots PGC really should have won this match 21-17), and Westfield Sports High School (Sydney’s elite rugby league performance school – score 17-5. This side featured Michael Doolan – already contracted to Parramatta in the NRL). The vast majority of schoolboys participating in this tournament are in accelerated pathways and are already on contract with either Super XV franchises or NRL clubs, so the performance by this group of boys is all the more impressive.
