About Simon Shepherd

Simon Shepherd was appointed as SCOTS PGC College Principal in early 2014, after a teaching journey spanning two decades, four states and three countries. As Principal of SCOTS PGC College he is working with the College community to improve the educational outcomes of all students in an environment that allows them to develop to their full potential. An environment that encourages all students to do their best, think reflectively, develop critical thinking skills, resilience, character and altruism.

Simon has attended ADFA and has a Bachelor of Arts from UNSW and a Bachelor of Education from Adelaide University. He also holds a Graduate Diploma of Outdoor Education, Graduate Diploma in Student Guidance and Graduate Diploma in Boarding Education. Most recently Simon was awarded a Masters in Educational Leadership.

Simon’s early years saw him work in the wilderness with youth at Mittagundi and teaching in South Australia. In 1998 he emigrated to Scotland and worked at two of the country’s most prestigious schools; Stewarts Melville and Strathallan.

After seven and half years in Scotland, and following the birth of his first son, Simon left Strathallan School where he was boarding house master to take up a teaching post at Canberra Grammar School. He was soon promoted to a year group coordinator and set about forging a link with the RMC Duntroon to facilitate outstanding leadership training and opportunities for the boys at Canberra Grammar.

In 2008 Simon was appointed Director of Boarding at Kinross Wolaroi in Orange, NSW. During this time he became a member of the Australian Boarding School Association, serving on the NSW board and on the National Board of Directors, a role he still greatly enjoys.

Simon moved to Wesley College, as Head of Senior School at Glen Waverley, in 2011 and undertook a new set of challenges in one of Australia’s largest and oldest independent schools.

As Principal of SCOTS PGC College he is working with the College community to improve the educational outcomes of all students in an environment that allows them to develop to their full potential. An environment that encourages all students to do their best, think reflectively, develop critical thinking skills, resilience, character and altruism.
